Dr. Lora Foster Rode DDS, is a highly skilled specialist certified in pediatric dentistry. She serves the unique needs of infants, children, and adolescents including patients with special needs.
Dr. Lora grew up in Fair Oaks. She played the flute in the concert band, and was a member of the soccer and field hockey teams at Bella Vista High School. She also volunteered at the UC Davis Medical Center Pediatric Oncology Ward, and has worked as a substitute teacher for the San Juan Unified School District for grades Kindergarten through High School. She is happy to return to her hometown to provide excellent dental care for the Sacramento community.
Dr. Lora graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry, and a Minor in Speech Communication. At Cal Poly, Dr. Lora was a member of the Alpha Chi Sigma professional chemistry fraternity, and served as Vice President of the Student Alumni Association. She was the Student Liaison for the Admitted Student Committee, and met with administration, faculty, and campus organizations to plan an event welcoming 8,000 prospective students to Cal Poly. Dr. Lora was the sole recipient of the Contributions to the Objectives and Public Image of the University Award from the College of Science and Math for her hard work and dedication while attending Cal Poly.
Dr. Lora received her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of California at Los Angeles, and displayed her leadership skills as Treasurer of the Associated Student Body for two years. She volunteered her dental services at Oral Health Fairs and Mobile Clinics throughout the Los Angeles Valley. Her previous experience as a teacher and her passion for dentistry merged as she taught the didactic and laboratory portions as a Student Lecturer for a Welcome to Dental Anatomy introductory lecture to incoming students at UCLA. She knew she was destined for a career treating children and young adults.
Dr. Lora furthered her education to pursue a certificate of Specialty in Pediatric Dentistry at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where she provided comprehensive clinical care for well children and those with special needs. Dr. Lora treated over 350 patients for after-hours emergencies including oral facial trauma, laceration management and facial infections. She also completed dental rehabilitation for patients in the operating room under general anesthesia and provided treatment using oral conscious sedation all while experiencing the humidity, cook-outs and culture of the Midwest.
Dr. Lora recently received the title of Diplomate within the pediatric dental profession. This rigorous examination is voluntary and is for the purpose of validation and improvement of the pediatric dentist’s clinical and diagnostic abilities. Successful completion of the examination permits one to be designated a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and to become a member of The College of Diplomates.
Dr. Lora is also a proud and active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, and the Sacramento District Dental Society where she is currently a member of the Oral Health Committee. She continues to be an active volunteer, and provides dental screenings for the First Five Organization of Sacramento and dental treatment for the Smile for Kids program which provides dental services to the lower socioeconomic youth in the Sacramento area. In 2006, Dr. Lora traveled to Malawi, Africa with Footsteps Missions to provide dental care to local children and adults who, otherwise, were unable to receive dental treatment. In her free time, Dr. Lora enjoys hiking and scuba-diving with her husband of one year, Jim, and playing with her two Cavalier King Charles puppies named Luke, and Leia.
